Easy On a Sunday: The Grapes.

Mom bought this planter for dad. It was a pale light wood color.Sister said... why not stain it, and put some grapes in it?Then this happened.The plant dangling at the top- is all real, it's so long it can go up and down the stairs probably twice.But the plant in the basket is fake.

Yesterday it snowed a bit here.This is how it started out- the flakes turned to water as soon as they hit anything!

you couldn't even tell for a while.

Then a few flakes tried to attach.See them on the nice picnic table - also built by my daddy?

Ben snuck out to drink the melting snowflakes that were rolling off the chairs.

I stayed inside. That's not real snow.And, sometimes these days the cold hurts my hips. I'll stay in here where it's less damp. Let me know when the real snow arrives.

It's sure been a long time since i posted! i hadn't realized so much time had passed me by!

woof!

I wanted to say, baby was brought into this world only 4 days after my last post! wow! she's almost six months already. She keeps sister very very busy- so blogging doesn't get done half as much as it should!

Here in my world, things are different. Benny, from http://theworldofhansel.blogspot.com/ has come to live here with me. Although i'm not super fond of sharing my humans, i do what i need to. We do play, and bark at things together, and take lovely walks every day together with my dad.

Since i'm not as great with my steps- Ben helps a lot with the yard work. ALthough i am still general grounds keeper- he's in training to help a lot so i can relax. I'm going to be 11 this year after all, and i need a bit of a hand.

I still get special rides in the car without him, he stays home with dad and mom and grammy and i go for nice rides to the store, and i still get special walks without him occasionally. And even though ben is a bit jealous, my humans like to make sure i remember i am the princess and the ruler of this house. And ben gets it to. He does very well for a smelly little bugger.

If only he would stop trying to eat my food.

I like to tease him with my cookies too. Since he has colitis he can't have milk bone cookies- so i like to show them to him and growl. That'll teach him who's in charge.

I am not doing as well these days as i used to... i tend to get slightly disoriented at times, and i can't really get up and down the steps as i used to. mom has to help me a lot. I don't need her to carry me all the time- because i like to do things for myself, but i like to have her standing nearby. When i need her, i bark, and she comes and just guides me down the steps- just in case i make a wrong step.

My mom is worried about me. I can't do really long walks anymore like i love, and like i've always done, my legs and back just can't handle it anymore. Even though my spirit and heart are ready and willing- and i'll NEVER turn a walk down- my body just doesn't listen to my head much anymore.

I hope to be able to post more often about me and my new little stinky brother benny.

Dad is an excellent gardener. He and his dad used to kind of, well compete with their gardens and tomatoes. Sister remembers whenever they would visit her grandpa's house when she was little- he would show her dad all of his plants and dad would compliment his dad, and then when grandpa would go to our house- his dad would compliment him on all he did. But the truth was, even to sister when she was a little girl- there was no comparison. Dad's plants always grew stronger and taller and towered above her as a child. And she doesn't remember her grandpa's plants even coming close. She never really understood how her grandpa could try to pass of his tomato as the real thing- it was like a play garden in comparison.Here are some shots of my dad's accomplishments - for this year.A nice bell pepper growing happily on the plant.

Some tomatoes- remember, all the red ones are already picked- dad goes out everyday and cleans them all out way before sister gets here.When she got here this time- dad already had three giant baskets sitting on the deck.

Thoughts on a thursday: thinking about an octopus.

I have this giant octopus toy.I like him.

He is soft and fuzzy. You know why i like him don't you? because i spit all over him, and then he becomes crusty. So you know he's MY octopus. And it's always worth it when a hooman picks it up and makes that face and goes "ohhh ewwww" because they know WHY he's crusty.

He may be a bit difficult to carry these days- but we get along just fine.

Wanna play octopus? I didn't spit on this side yet.

He gets nice and crusty. Yes, he will do nicely.

Back to the yard today to show you some colors of summer.This is my tropical hibiscus plant. And a bug in there. he is also enjoying the color.

Dad's banana plant- Look at it reaching for the sky!I love how the leaves unroll out from the plant.

the banana plants in the back do not compare to the other one. These are babies. Next to them, you can see the beautiful lilies!

Here is some wild myrtle! It's very pretty.The japanese beetles love to eat the flowers. :(

The tiger lilies! Sister LOVES these. She takes a million photos of them every year.

This is dad's Canna Lily. This is the only one bloomed right now. She is a beautiful red!

Back to the hibiscus, this one is sister's favorite color for this plant- the peach one. So beautiful! Can you see the little fuzzies around the stem? It looks so soft and delicate!

Duck Jerky Monday

The best part of having a nephew that has intestinal problems- like Benny who has colitis - is that he is on a very strict diet. So, when he gets special treats- and he can't have them, guess who gets them?! ME!!!! For his birthday- the amazing white dog army sent him some duck jerky!Here i am having some.

They have to tear it into small pieces for me though... otherwise i tend to choke. It's this rotten age thing.

Sister missed this shot because i took the piece from her while she was shooting.

Ok more please! i love duck jerky!

Ah yes the garden! Today the garden can rest. I will not be out there inspecting- as its WAY too hot.I have sent my dad out to take care of it today. After all- he is not all furry like myself.

These tomatoes are getting ready to turn soon (i hope).There are no red ones- Why? Because dad already picked those. None to photograph!

Saturday Flamingos.

Hello! Real fast- a lot of you asked if i get to go swimming in the pool! Well, i'm certainly allowed, and sister used to take me in all the time to cool me off- but now that i don't stand so well, i don't go anywhere near the pool. I don't like that i can't touch bottom. So, these days- i don't go for a swim there. BUT if i go to the beach- i DO lots of swimming there! i even try jumping waves! I like having my feet touching ground!Today's post is about Flamingos. I have flamingos in my yard.
This one, is dad's. Dad has 4 of these, around the same plant.I do not know why they are all gathered around the same plant, but they are.And he needed four he said.

That over there is MY flamingo. Mine stays in the house.I only have one.

I think one is plenty.

i like to toss my flamingo.

But, it is not a REALLY cool toy- so i lose interest sometimes.

She does make a good sleep buddy.

This is mom's latest project. She is always working on something really cool. This was a planter she got for dad, but he didn't use it. It was a plain wood color. And it's been sitting in the garage. SO sister asked mom why she didn't paint it, and put grapes in it, and add it to her display of grapes and things she has upstairs?

Mom decided that would be a good idea!Here is the planter all fixed up!

I think it looks great don't you?! can't wait til it's filled with grapes!

Sister also updated the look of my blog today- because my pictures were being cut in half! how rude!

fountain in action! I need to vacuum it again, we vacuumed just the other day, and found there was a hole in the hose!!! so all the stuff was going back in but we didn't notice until the end!So i guess i better take over that job. Sheesh. Hoomans.Now i'm going to go back inside.

It's hot out there- and for some reason, my family won't let me drink from the pool- ALL that water and they won't let me have any! RUDE! So, i'll just drink from my bowl instead. Happy friday!

Hello everyone, i had my yearly check up on wednesday with a new vet this time. Dr. L. The vaccines that dr. L uses are much safer for doggies and kitties. He gets good quality vaccines- and he cares a great deal about the animals so he actually looks into and researches each and every vaccine he uses.
Where i used to go just used the cheapest kind they could find- Fort Dodge vaccines, and even though tons of animals were having reactions- they used them anyway. Sister didn't feel comfortable taking me there anymore with those vaccines, so me, and all of sister's furbabies all go see dr. L for vaccines.
He took a good look at me, and said that my left eye doesn't respond to light right anymore. When you shine the light in it- it doesn't constrict anymore- it actually dilates instead. The right eye still works fine though.   My neurological issues have not progressed any in the past 2 years or so- they've seemed to just kind of stabilize. Dr. L thinks that any changes in anything else - my walking and getting around is more due to age, and the arthritis in my back legs & hips. I have some muscle atrophy, but that is more normal as i am 10 years now.
He thinks i have a brain lesion in the right side of my brain. He also doesn't seem concerned- and that the damage it has done is done- and it shouldn't progress.
He said just to make sure i get the extra care and attention that i need- as my hoomans have been doing all along since the prognosis was made- but we are glad we finally have "brain lesion" as a diagnosis- and glad that this is as bad as it's going to get. No shortened life span, nothing. We are very happy with the news.
So now i only will be receiving a rabies shot every 3 years, and my heartworm test annually- he doesn't want me being vaccinated anymore other than those two things- as i am old enough and with the brain issues, i shouldn't really need them anymore.
So we got good news, and hope you will join us in celebrating!

Go on, take it back!Since my tilt has come along, you really shouldn't try to take it back though... i can't judge very well where your hand and things in my mouth are.
Before you could stick your fingers in my mouth while i was doing this, and i would NEVER bite you.
Now, i can't really tell where your fingers are. So if i get you, i feel really awful, and i don't mean it. I promise.

Notice my front teeth on top? Some of them are not so good anymore, because of misjudging while playing with my cookies.
My face sometimes hits the floor and that happens to my teeth.We only really noticed it recently. :(But i don't really mind.

And it's sure not going to keep me from playing.

I just hate the mosquitoes. Good thing i am on heartworm preventative! heartworms are common in this area.

And since i love being outside, especially in the shade.. i have to make sure i take it monthly.

Here is the frog that is living on top of the pool cover.We had TONS this year. Dad doesn't drain it until the very last minute...

because see? there are tadpoles in there! We let them all grow up and crawl out!!! He saves any that he can when it comes time to open the pool (which i think is this weekend).

Sometimes these days i need help going up stairs.
Sometimes they shift positions on me.

But i need NO help finding shade!!!!

Thankful Thursday: Cookies from Grammy.

I am very thankful on this thursday, that my grammy ignores what sister and mom says, and gives me milk bones every single morning. And they are the high calorie ones. Sister doesn't want me to have those because i don't eat enough of my normal food- and at one point i was putting on too much weight from junk food. And considering my hips are so bad, sister says i need to stay thin.

But every morning grammy gives me cookies.And she also HAND FEEDS me my dinner when she thinks i want it.I am so spoiled, that if she doesn't hand feed me, i refuse to eat. When sister lived here, i ate. But then grammy went whacky and decided that she had to feed me because i don't sit by the food bowl and eat all day long- i must not be eating right.So a few years of that- and you'd probably go strictly to being hand fed too.

You have to play with me now, to get me to eat my cookies, or my dinner. You have to pretend to steal my cookies and food. Or i won't eat it. And it HAS to be like that now. It upsets sister a lot- that i am hand fed.

In these photos i'm trying to get sister to play cookie with me because i think i want one.But she never plays.

Only for photos will she pretend to play.She thinks i'm old enough to eat on my own. do your hoomans spoil you rotten too?

What have you all been up to? Sorry i've not been around much.I just celebrated my 10th barkday on May 14th!!!! Can you believe that?!I'm 10 now!!!

I have a few photos i can share with you. And some big news to share as well.Sister is going to be a mom! this very summer!I don't know how i feel about a little hooman running around.At least it'll take her a while to be 'runnin' anywhere!

Sister is also not working anymore, soooooo hopefully *don't hold your breath* she will be able to help me blog more! She will be over a lot more and hopefully more photos will also be taken.I wanted to thank all of you for your comments over the last few months.

I will try to get back to everyone! If anyone has any questions- please leave them on this post, and sister will try to answer them!I have been doing VERY well! I still have my tilt, and i still struggle with different things, but i am still a tough girl and am in no mood to just give up. My heart and spirit is still healthy as ever! It's just this body that doesn't quite listen to what i want it to do.I got to go to the beach last weekend, and i ran and jumped into the waves like always. I still know what i want!In a few weeks sister said i have to go to the V-E-T to visit and get checked over. It's my annual visit there. So i will be sure to update any news that i get. :)Right now, i'm just enjoying the spring (while it's still here) and getting plenty of belly rubs in. :)

Last night sister and mom went to visit Cape May New Jersey.
This is what the town looked like for the Candlelight Tour
The town is always pretty- but it was extra special to see all the lights
and the displays all over.

Last Weekend Tree Decorating. pt. 1

We decorated our fake tree last sunday.
This tree is the same tree my girl and boy grew up decorating!
It has tons of history to it.
I think my mom also had it when she was a kid.
And that star, is like no other star.
When it warms up, it spins, and shoots colors all over the walls.
My grandpa got it when mom was a little little girl.
For just $5!

At the top of the tree go the M & M lights.
Then at the bottom the bell lights. These also play music.
my girl LOVES these.
Everyone else wants to turn them off.

They always load up this tree.

Ahhh the rain!
Mom grew up with tinsel because her dad loved it.
And she loves it.
My girl likes it- but because of the cats, won't get it, because she KNOWS they will eat it.
And she has known many people to lose cats due to this issue.

Hello Everyone!

Today, is a day to give thanks.

First, i would love to say thank you to my family. To all the care they give me.

To my grandma who always is there to feed me, because her silly little head thinks i won't eat if she doesn't hand feed me or play cookies with me.
It gives her happiness in her day to do that with me.
Even though it can be a real pain in the butt sometimes, because now i'm spoiled rotten,
She loves me, and i am thankful for her always looking for me, and always worrying for me.

To my boy, for growing up. For being given this chance, for the grace, for being saved. We almost lost him a few years ago to Colitis, a battle he continues to fight. And although he is in remission right now, you never know when something could be waiting.
And i am thankful, that he is as healthy as he is right now.
That through it all he has found the strength to keep going, and grow from it.

To my dad, for all the special walkies.
For always letting me spit on his hats and socks as i steal them off his body.
To sneaking me snacks under the table even though it drives sister nuts.
For doing what HE thinks is in my best interest, thinking he is doing a good thing, even if he isn't, his heart is in the right place.
For building me my fence in my yard, and landscaping it beautifully and helping take care of my plants.

To my mom, for being there to help me all the time.
For helping me up and down the stairs, making sure i don't get stuck anywhere,
for catering to me when i need it. For sticking by me.
For knowing what's best for me, and caring enough about me to keep going with it.
For believing in me, and making sure she takes me on as many walks as she can.
Bringing water for me all the time, making sure i have special water that ben doesn't spit in.
And for keeping my toys away from ben. He's so spitty. And destroy-ee.

I am also thankful for friends.

Well, they turn green after a while in the yard.

HI all.

It's been a while! I have some photos that i wanted to show you,
of my yard getting ready for fall.
I will show you those this week.

As for my health- thank you all for being concerned about me, and all the good positive comments and well wishes. I am doing pretty well. I am still very tippy, and probably always will be. Sometimes, i want to run and i just can't, because up gets confused with down, and well. It's hard.
i'm very tilty. When you look at me, i almost always have my head to one side. But, i'm getting around pretty well. I'm still taking my glucosamine, and tramadol IF i need it. But most of the time i don't.
I still love walks, and dad has started taking me on special walks in the morning, which i love very very much. I have my own yard so most of the time when i go out, it's to lounge in MY territory, but dad knows how much i like walking and going out so he has begun doing that with me. And it's my favorite part of the day.

Now, here are some great photos.

Isis's Condition.

It's been hard for sister to tell you all this, but we want everyone to know what's going on.

We don't know if you noticed, but Isis has has a bit of a 'tilt'. She tilts to the right. Now normally, this is a big characteristic of 'Vestibular Disease'. When your eyes shift and you tilt and you can't find up.

That' s what we kind of thought it was. But not to go on this long.

Dr. J says that she has a Neurological disorder, so that she feels like she's tipping- but it's not vestibular, because vestibular comes in cycles. Or waves, but doesn't come and stay. Isis hasn't gotten better. Since may, she's gotten worse.

What we originally thought was just arthritis, is more than that. Yes she has it, but she steps out funny, very 'high steps' he called it. So that she doesn't stumble. She can't see as well, and he doesn't know why because she doesn't have cataracts.

It's not a brain tumor- because she wouldn't have made it this long. And she's not showing seizure activity, but we don't know what it is. She's been showing symptoms for about 2 years. But since may it's gotten really bad.

He said we could take her to a neurologist, but that would be tons of monies, and lots of tests and for what? nothing. Just a confirmation. They can't stop the process or whatever is going on. All they can do is tell us what it is. And we don't want her spending however much time she does have, being tested on.

he said she looks like she's aged since just may, and he doesn't know why. He doesn't know how long she does have, but he is very hopeful that its a few years- he said she's a tough dog, and he has faith in her strength.

So if you don't see as many photos of her, it's more that i don't want her looking tilted in them.
I don't want her looking clumsy.

Please just keep her in your thoughts.

There they were, as sister and i went to the pool to check on the poles,
it seemed that overnight they had changed into LITTLE TINY FROGS!

They were everywhere! all over the pool cover,
sneaking out from their waterhole.

I love the beach.

I love jumping in the waves, and then drying off with the beautiful breeze in my hair.

And while all the hoomans get bit by flies (only on bad days)
the flies can't reach my skin although they try.

Thursday Celebrating My Blogversary!

Today is May 20th!
And, exactly THREE years ago today, I started here in the blogging world!
back on MAY 20th 2007!

And for those of you who missed it
THANKS TO SISTER NOT POSTING
on friday the 14th i turned 9 years old!!!!!!!!!

Here are some great photos (continuing into tomorrow) to celebrate this great day!

I got to go to the park!
Look at these OLD train tracks.
Now people use them to get to the water.

Although i wouldn't recommend swimming in it.
They mostly use it for fishing.

I went to the vet the other day and had bloodwork done (routine for my age) to check to see how i am!

My bloodwork is PERFECT!
However, the arthritis is now in my knees as well.
My vet was very sad about that.
BUT i still love my long walks!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know what this is?
it's not a daisy- because the leaves aren't right.
but we don't know WHAT it is.

Here is a little baby fern plant that a nice bird brought into my yard.
I think he's very cute.
